Contractor Marketing 2-Minute Tuesday: Pay-per-click vs Organic Search Traffic

“Welcome to Contractor Marketing, “Two-Minute” Tuesday! I’m Brodie Tyler with Inbound Systems and I’m bringing you the quickest, most valuable and most profitable two minutes of your week.

Today, in under two minutes, I’m answering the question: “Is pay-per-click or organic search traffic more profitable?”

Ready, set, go!

Ok, so this is a nearly impossible question to answer specifically for your business and company, because it depends on your market and how aggressive you want to be in your marketing and what your niche is, BUT, with that being said, let me explain the difference between “pay-per-click” and “organic” search traffic.

First of all — Leads from inbound marketing cost 60% less than leads from outbound marketing and I consider “pay-per-click” an outbound marketing strategy. While the traffic that you get from “organic” search results is an inbound marketing strategy.

So, right off the bat, the organic search results are going to, in essence, cost you 60% less than pay-per-click [ads].

Alright, let me explain why that is. First of all, the placement. Pay-per-click ads show up at the top of the search results and along the right side-bar. The organic search listings show up everywhere else. Like right here and below the ads up here.. and here, we have the “local” search results, that might include your name, your phone number and a little icon that relates to the icon on the map, showing where you’re located — and that’s just for local organic search results.

Now there’s a difference in cost, right? Pay-per-click, you pay every time someone clicks on your ad. Whereas, with the organic search results, you don’t have to pay to be here, but you do need to invest in to that content and getting it optimized so that Google will trust your content and list you right here, at absolutely NO cost to you. (or at least from Google’s standpoint)

The life-span, as soon as you stop paying for pay-per-click ads, they disappear. Whereas organic (search results) once you do it, they’re there.

Clicks, 70% of people look [here] before pay-per-click ads, and then finally, perception.

People know these are ads, so they’re more likely to skip them!

That’s it! Thanks for watching today’s, Contractor Marketing, “Two-Minute” Tuesday.”
