Contractor Marketing 2-Minute Tuesday: What Social Media Platforms Should I Use? Part 1

“Welcome to Contractor Marketing, “Two-Minute Tuesday,” I’m Brodie Tyler with Inbound Systems and I’m bringing you the quickest, most valuable and most profitable two minutes of your week!

Today, in under two minutes I’m answering the question, “What social media platforms should I use for my contracting business?”

Ready. Set. Go!

Ok, so first up is Facebook. Should you be posting on Facebook? Should you be using this social media platform? Absolutely, you should! The problem is that over the last 6-12 months, Facebook has restricted the visibility a business can get on their social media platform. So, anytime you post on Facebook, it doesn’t mean that your audience is going to see it or it’s going to show up in their feed. I just read an article recently that only 2.6% of posts coming from businesses are showing up on Facebook feeds. So, what is that driving people to do? Well, Facebook wants you to pay for that visibility and promote that post.

That being said, should you still be posting on Facebook? Yes, you should. And here’s the reason why: People are going to check you out before they do business with you. They’re going to do research on you and check out your Facebook page. If they go there and there’s nothing there, then that’s going to leave a bad impression, so you should be posting something on Facebook and making it useful for your audience. And if you want to promote those posts and pay for that, you can.

Alright, next up is Twitter. Twitter is interesting. If your audience is on Twitter than absolutely you should be as well. If you target senior citizens or retirees and remodeling in those types of communities, than Twitter is probably not your [ideal] social media platform. If it’s a younger generation, then yes. You probably will. The best thing to do is to survey your customers.

Google+. This social media platform has changed, and it’s in the process of being changed as we record this video. I’m not a big fan of utilizing it as a social media platform, but you do want your business listing optimized. You want to make sure that you’re listed and that your name, address, and phone number is accurate and complete. But as far as communicating with your audience and posting on Google+, I wouldn’t worry about that.

That’s it for today, thanks for watching, Contractor Marketing, “Two-Minute Tuesday!”

I’ll cover the other social media platforms in the next video.”
