5 Clues Your Contractor Business Needs Better Marketing

Investing in marketing for your contractor business can be a costly choice, so how do you really know if you need better marketing? Do you feel unsure whether your current marketing is even working for you?

Here are five signs that will tell you it’s time to kick-start your marketing.

1. You aren’t getting enough leads

More leads = more sales, so your contracting business needs new leads, consistently pouring in. Do you go through dry spells with lead generation? That could be the first major sign your current marketing efforts aren’t enough.

Ideally, you want a constant flow of leads going to your sales team, with the number of leads increasing as your business grows. If you feel that your leads aren’t doing Marketing for contractors cluesthis, you need to invest in marketing that does generate consistent leads.

2. You have low sales

This goes hand-in-hand with the previous point of low sales leads. If you aren’t getting enough leads, you will have low sales.

But what if you have enough leads, but they aren’t converting into sales? Well, then your marketing isn’t interacting with your leads the right way. Somewhere your leads are experiencing a disconnect.

This means your current marketing isn’t speaking to them during key decision moments such as:

  • Deciding what their problem is
  • What type of solution to pursue
  • What company to go with to provide the desired solution

3. You’re dealing with low quality leads

Are your contractor leads filled with people that aren’t in your target market? Are you dealing with people that will never buy from you?

That means your marketing isn’t attracting the right crowd. This may be caused by a specific offer that speaks to the wrong market or your approach in general has targeted people outside of your market. Shifting your marketing approach may be needed to refocus on attracting quality leads which are target market specific.

4. People in your target market are unaware of you

If somebody in your target market is currently looking at solutions you provide, they need to know your name. That means getting your business in front of them, wherever that may be.

If your ideal customer reads home improvement blogs, your marketing needs to be involved with those blogs. Your business could starts it’s own home improvement blog or work with other blogs to spotlight your business.

Getting in front of that target market will help them recognize your brand and the quality of work you do.

5. You aren’t getting leads from your website

Your website is one of your most valuable tools in your marketing efforts. If a lead is on your website, then you’ve successfully completed half the work! Your website should be equipped to handle a lead, no matter what decision stage they are in.

If a lead is looking for advice about a problem, your website should be able to answer it. They want to know about a particular service? Information about that service should be easily found on your site. A lead that is trying to decide between you and a competitor should find customer testimonials and reasons why you’re the better fit. We could go on, but I think you get our point.
